Air Force Ball

Monday, September 24, 2012

**Warning: This post is going to be picture heavy!**

The Air Force Ball! What an evening! I know I am VERY late in sharing all the details of the ball, but I have been in Sweet Home Alabama for the past week and am about to go back! Yay for travels!

So anyway, I spent nearly the whole day (because I woke up at noon) getting ready for ball. I love dressing up and doing my hair. I don't do it that often, so when I do I like to go all out.

We both felt a little lost when we first got there. There were so many people there and J didn't know many of them. Luckily we got to a table with one of his friends and a few other guys that were his rank.

I was so excited to be there. I had never been to an even like this. I felt so honored. I was a little overwhelmed by all the toasting though! But overall it was such a nice night. The stage area was set up so nicely and I especially loved the guest speaker and his humor and wisdom.

Stage before starting the evening

J started feeling kind of uncomfortable in his uniform, so we had our pictures professionally taken danced to one song (which I was a little disappointed about) and went on our merry way.

Overall it was such a lovely evening and I can't wait to go back next year!

Sunday Social from the beach

Sunday, September 16, 2012

It's that time again! Linking up with Neely and Ashley for Sunday Social.

1. 5 items you can't live without on a daily basis(water, food, shelter, and clothes dont count)
(1) My phone!!!!
(2) My doggies (and family) ...you can see how things rank
(3) The Internet
(4) Morning tea
(5) Medicine ... for lack of a better idea
2. All time favorite book? Why?
I don't have a super all time favorite book. One of my favorites is The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom. I like this book because it really makes you think what Heaven will be like (assuming I'm going there).
3. Something you'd like to accomplish before the end of 2012
Accomplish my weight loss goals and submitted all of my graduate school applications.
4. If you could go back and relive any year of your life which year would it be?
I think I would go back and relive this past year. Knowing everything that I know now, I would want to spend more time with my friends that might not be around in the future.
5. What do you wish people knew about you without you having to tell them
I can't think of anything that I wish people knew about me without me telling them. I don't really get any reoccuring questions.

Etsy shop?!

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

I've typed up what I want to say about 3 times now, and erased it every time because I just didn't think it sounded right. But the truth is, I need advice. I am not one of those people who usually buys things online. So sadly, I've never really shopped on Etsy. I browse around some, but never bought anything. But from what I've seen, it's kinda nice.

But I digress...

The advice I need is on an Etsy shop. I am thinking of opening one. I have been crocheting my little heart out lately. I've been making two different blankets (one for J and one for his nephew Brooks). But it all got me thinking... maybe somebody would like to buy my crocheted masterpieces.

J's blanket I'm working on

What do y'all think? Would this be a good idea?

Thanks!

Weight Loss: Insanity Journey

Monday, September 10, 2012

Warning! I am not the healthiest person by far! But I do try to be healthy for me... so what I'm about to write is my journey.

Two years ago, I noticed that I was gaining a lot of weight. And I mean a lot! I didn't know how to stop it. I started walking a 10k three times a week. All the walking didn't seem to help. I just kept gaining weight. In total I gained 36 pounds. I knew something wasn't right.

3 years ago: Before I gained weight
1 year ago: After gaining weight

I went to my doctor and I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I began taking medicine for it and I lost about 20 pounds from the medicine. Unfortunately, that left about 16 pounds until I'm back at my original weight. But I don't want to be there. I wasn't at a healthy weight then. I wasn't seriously overweight, but I can be smaller than I was.

So I began the Insanity workout. I didn't follow a strict diet during the workout. When I try to follow a diet it doesn't work so well. So I just watched what I ate. The workout program was pretty tough. Well  not just tough but difficult.

I didn't do as well as I should have because I went out of town at least four times during the program. And out of town for me means I had a hard time eating well, even just watching what I eat. So I could have lost more weight, but I wanted to share my little bit of goodness that came from this workout.

This is my progress... please don't judge me and my pictures.

Before
After

Before
After

Stats!

Lost:
- 8 pounds
- 2.5 inches in chest
- 1.25 inches in waist
- 1.25 inches in hips

Not exactly like their commercials, but I'll get there eventually! Plus this helped me complete... drum role please...

79. Finish Insanity! Done!

Wounded Warrior Memorial Run

Saturday, September 8, 2012

The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is an organization to honor and empower wounded warriors. Their goal is to help raise public awareness of the aid needed by our injured servicemen. They help injured warriors by giving them encouragement and directed programs.

They have many different projects to help the wounded. Their projects include transitional care packages, backpacks, and walks/runs.

Transitional Care Packages- Warriors wounded in the field which are being transported from field hospitals to larger treatment facilities receive these small backpacks to give the wounded warrior immediate comfort.

Backpacks- Packs with essential care items such as clothes, toiletries, playing cards and more comforting items. Everything in the backpack is meant to make the hospital stay more comfortable.

Walks/runs- Wounded Warrior Project sponsors 8k runs in selected cities to raise awareness. But groups can also sponsor walks/runs.

As of August 1, 2012 there have been 20,891 alumni of WWP, 15,700 backpacks, and 36,501 transitional care packages.

My college has sponsored a Memorial 5k Run/Walk for three years now!!! I'm so glad that they started this. I cannot find where the WWP hosts a run near me, so it is nice that my college does it and I can still help out. I did it in previous years and have included it in my 101 in 1001 goals. I want to continue to do runs for good causes such as this.

This is what our t-shirts looks like this year. I got one from the previous years I ran. I gave my shirt to J though. This year I plan on buying 2 so I can keep one and still give J one. I really wish he could do the run with me, but I'm sure we will do some kind of supportive run together in the future.

My friend and I walked/ran together. It was a lot of fun. We were behind these 2 girls that had painted an American Flag and was carrying it the whole way. When we got to the turn around point, we passed them. It kinda made me feel good that they did that though.

Do you do participate in any kind of military related runs?

MilSpouse Friday Fill-In

Friday, September 7, 2012

In an effort to be more active in my blog, I decided to spend some time doing the MilSpouse Friday Fill-in with Wife of a Sailor.

So here it goes.

1. What’s one thing in the past month you would have changed?
This past month, there was one thing that happened which was very hard on me. I would definitely change what happened then.
2. What was your favorite thing that happened in August?
I got to go camping. I love that my family gets together once or twice a year and goes camping.
3. What did you do to celebrate Labor Day?
J and I and some of his friends went camping at Kings Dominion camp ground and went to the amusement park. It was a lot of fun, but kind of tiring.
4. What do you HAVE to have handy by your bedside?
My phone! and my phone charger. I also usually have my light remote close too. I usually turn on the palm tree lights, then cut off the ceiling light so I have light to get into bed with. Then I use the light remote to turn off the palm tree lights. Here's a picture so y'all can get the idea!

5. What are you looking forward to in September?
The Wounded Warrior Run tomorrow at my college... yep going back as an alumni. Oh and going to the Air Force ball with J and possibly going home with him!
Look for my explanation of the Wounded Warrior Run shortly and some other fun posts! I'm trying to come up with creative things to blog about since my life isn't so interesting right now!

Paintings Beach Style

Thursday, September 6, 2012

For the record... I'm not too much of an artistic person. But Michael's was offering a painting class so my mom, aunt and I took the seascapes painting. The painting that we were copying was not what I had exactly had expected or liked at first.

So this is what I started out with! Yay! Blank canvas! This is a little intimidating.

We drew straight lines breaking our canvas up into 3 unequal parts. The first, lowest part is the sand which we painted first.

It's pretty plain right there, but it gets better. We had to do a lot of "spritzing" aka getting down and dirty with the paint. That was kinda a fun part. the next part was the sky... that got a little harder. There were color mixing and clouds.... the first clouds got covered up with blue and painted again later. Man that was tougher than I imagined.

Next came the ocean and a few rocks, then the store was closing. SO we had to come back tonight. But that was ok. I was able to relax and paint better tonight. I finished up my rocks (which I put fewer rocks than everybody else), ocean spray and redoing the clouds! Yay!!!
I didn't really like the painting when I first saw it, but after painting it for myself and putting in all of that effort, I kinda like it. I am going to try to paint another (smaller) one to hang in J and my bathroom when we eventually move in together.

I'm very excited and can't wait to start on another painting.

MIA: Labor Day weekend

Tuesday, September 4, 2012

I've been seriously MIA lately. I've had a difficult time recently.

I had a job interview. I think it went well, but I'm not sure if I want it. I know that sounds crazy. But my life just seems upside down lately.

But in better news I went camping with J this weekend. Well, it wasn't just him and I. His 4 of his friends came too. It was a pretty fun time. We camped at Kings Dominion.  So Saturday we went to the park. I enjoy roller coasters to no end, but anything that swings makes me sick. He loves the swing type of rides but doesn't like roller coasters. So we did a few of both.

It rained like crazy Saturday night though. Rain + tents = disaster! The rain was coming in the bottom section of the walls of the tent, so we (and by we, I mean J) took tarps and layered them over the sides of the tent to  give the tent extra rain protection. It worked, but by the time he did that, we already had water all in the tent. It rained on and off Sunday, but we went to the Bass Pro shop a few miles down the road. I was kinda bored. I'm not much of an outdoors type of person. Camping is about the best it gets for me.

While we were at the Bass Pro shop, we stopped by the gun counter. J told me that when we live together he wants me to get a gun to keep in my purse. Hah! yeah a GUN for me to keep in my purse. I don't think it's a bad idea to have a gun, especially when I am not in good parts of town. I'm not afraid of them (at least not to have one around). I just want to be fully trained in them and know how to handle them and myself. But my biggest fear is when we have kids. I don't want the kids to be able to easily get their little hands on the guns. And knowing J, he will want to start the kids early. But I've already laid down law to him that when he teaches the kids about guns and shooting, that they cannot "play" with them unless he is around. Period. He agreed with my law and said that was a good idea.

Overall, my Labor Day weekend was pretty good. I'll try not to be so MIA in the future.

Sunday Social: Let's Wrap Up Summer

Sunday, September 2, 2012

Here's another week of fun with Neely and Ashley. Answer some questions and go on over to link up!

1. What was your favorite trip/vacation/activity this summer?
This summer's favorite trip/vacation would definitely have to be my time in Charleston, SC and Alabama. It was kinda rolled up into one whole trip. I spent about 2 weeks in Charleston, SC with J at the base then we had our trip down to Alabama so I could meet his family for the first time. It was all so fun and I met some really amazing people during my trip. PLUS I got to go to the Coca-Cola museum (in Atlanta, GA) on the way back to South Carolina

2. What was your favorite outfit look of the summer/clothing item?
Hmm, this is a toughie. Since I am trying to lose weight I didn't buy too many cute summer outfits but here's a few.

Cute Summer sundresses
Cute flip flops!

3. What is one thing you wish you had gotten to do this summer?
I think I've gotten to do just about everything I wanted to do. I do wish that my friend, B, could have gone to the beach with me, but oh well.

4. What was your favorite song of the summer?
For this summer top on my playlist would definitely have to be some Eric Church with Carolina and Hell on the Heart.

5. What was your favorite movie/tv show of the summer?
There is a lot that I've watched this summer. So Netflix is my savior and I have been catching up with the rest of the world. I've been watching One Tree Hill and Supernatural on netflix. On regular TV, its been Burn Notice, Army Wives, and Drop Dead Diva. Plus NCIS because who doesn't watch that year round?!

Now go link up!
