Discovering the Library

Monday, February 18, 2013

When I was in college, the library was a place I went to when I was giving a tour or when I needed to really get some work done.

I never really relized how much I enjoyed going to the library. Until I wasn't in school anymore. Now I have to admit that I never really checked books out. I think during my four years, I checked out maybe 3 books. Kinda sad, huh? Yeah, I didn't really find my "reading style" until my senior year, and most of the books I could get on my kindle.

Anyway, after being out of school I just miss going to the library. I love people watching, the semi-quietness and having different surroundings. And although the public library near my house is no college library, I still enjoy it.

My current view in the library

To be honest, I've fallen in love with the library loaning system. I don't know if that's what it's actually called or not but it's pretty neat. Our county is pretty big, like 10 different high schools and about 12 public libraries. So if one library has a book that you want, but don't want to drive all the way across town to get it, you can request it and it will magically appear at the closest library to you. Okay so it's not magic, but it's pretty cool. I did this with Footprints in the Sand by Mary Jane Clark. I also just requested the two earlier books in that series and will pick them up when I get ready to leave!

Okay, so I'm sure I've bored y'all with library talk enough. Maybe y'all will discover your local library as well!

  2. I love this post! I'm a librarian by career-I work in a high school media center now but I've worked in public libraries for 5 years previously and I"m such an advocate for them! They are one of our countries most valuable resources!
