No Spend September

Monday, September 2, 2013

As the months of this year have passed I can't even begin to describe how much I have been wracking my brain trying to come up with jobs to apply to, ways to make money, and most importantly how to save money for the wedding. The list of financial thoughts are literally endless. My brain has been going non-stop on the money train since late March.

Katie contacted me as well as a few other bloggy friends to put this all together. Since I was fretting over the topic of money anyway when I heard from her the bells in my head just started going off about how great this could be! And so here we are today... getting ready to jump head first into No-Spend September.

So with every good challenge comes rules. Here are the rules that Katie and I have decided on.

1. Stick to the budget. No exceptions. No excuses.
2. Cut bills into halves.
3. Once they are split up, pay them on a designated day. No procrastinating.
4. Do NOT eat out!
5. Coupons, coupons, coupons!

As many of you probably know, I will be moving in with J within the next year. So once we move in together we will be responsible for each other. When we move in I don't want to be in a huge panic about money because he bought $80 worth of workout supplements and supplies. I want to be prepared knowing that we've agreed that his income will support us in the present and my income will go towards the wedding and our future savings.

With all of the moving in and living together in mind, I want to not only use No Spend September as a way to stop the frivolous spending currently but also set up a budget and sample meal plans for J and I. Basically how we would be doing thing if we were currently living together. That way there will be less headache and worrying for me because I know that is what I will be doing. I can pick up these plans that I've already made in advance and just run with them.
