Bling Bling Monthly Favorites

Monday, March 31, 2014

Holy cow last week was busy! Like extremely busy but I just couldn't miss telling y'all about my favorite thing this month!!

So my favorite this month is a ring I was eyeing in February. I really enjoy unique jewelry but nothing that's too over the top. This ring was just perfect!

I know I'll sound ironic for saying this but I feel like it makes a statement yet is very delicate at the same time. It catches peoples eye. I don't even know how many compliments I've received on this ring. I love wearing it and have probably had it on every time I went out this month!

Do y'all have a go-to jewelry piece?
Do you prefer bold or more delicate jewelry?

Happy One Year Wednesday!

Wednesday, March 26, 2014

Today marks one whole year of John and I being engaged. We've certainly had our ups and downs just during the engagement but I know that it is only making us stronger as a couple and helping our love grow more and more each day.

I've shared about a million and one pictures from the proposal and just John and I in general but what's the harm in one more?!

Happy Wednesday y'all!

Spring Reading List

Tuesday, March 25, 2014

I like to browse around GoodReads to see what people enjoy reading. There were a few books that I kept coming across. I'm kind of OCD when it comes to finding books, movies, TV shows, pretty much any type of entertainment. I have to make a list so I know I will have the title when I try to find it later on. So anyway, in my browsing I decided to make up my top 5 books for spring of 2014!

Spring 2014 Reading List

I'm looking forward to reading all of these books! You can click on the link to go to the description of the book. Hopefully I can get around to writing my thoughts of the books too!

Across the Universe
Astronaut Wives Club
Beautiful Disaster
City of Bones

What books are you reading this spring?
Have you read any of these books?

P.S. I just realized all these books start with one of the first 4 letters of the alphabet. Random fact!

I'm Just Happy

Monday, March 24, 2014

Can I just tell you how happy I am that Spring is finally here?! Who else is excited? Are y'all actually experiencing spring? I know they are calling for precipitation tomorrow in Virginia that could include a wintery mix. I don't think the weather men know exactly what's coming sometimes. However, I'm ready for spring weather all the time and not just one day to be followed by cold weather which could include snow.

I'm also happy that I'm in Charleston with John. We've got a few things planned for this week that I'm pretty excited about. One of those things is a date night! I'm really excited about that. I even packed a dress to wear.

So since I'm in Charleston I'm getting to explore the apartment. It's so exciting. I can't wait to be here full time to put some girly touches and actually decorate. I already have plans for one wall of John and my bedroom. I work quickly! :)

Okay so I'm going to hop off of here and get to hanging out with my wonderful fiance.

Can I just tell y'all how excited I am for the Divergent movie?! Um, I'm pretty freaking excited. I didn't blog back when The Hunger Games movie came out, but if you can imagine that excitement and multiply it by like 100! Yes, that's how excited I am. And how could you not be that excited with a trailer like this?!

So that's all for today. Happy Friday!

We are moving in a positive direction. Speaking of positive directions, I have tentative plans to see John coming up soon. It's been over a month since I've seen him and I feel so lost. Thank goodness for Snapchat, I get cute pictures from him like this...

The Final Salute

Wednesday, March 19, 2014

Sunday was a sad day in the world on TV drama. Some of y'all might criticize me for this, but I was very sad to see Army Wives come to an end.

After watching 7 seasons over 5 years, I feel like the characters were friends, somebody I got to catch up with every week. I had a feeling that the show would end after the 7th season. Though the sadness didn't actually hit until I watched The Final Salute on Sunday. It was like saying see you later, except for good.

I can't even remember the amount of times I had to laugh at Roxy because of her wonderfully funny sayings. She is honestly somebody I would love to have been friends with in real life. She was so real and spunky and didn't take crap from anybody.

On Sunday, they described Denise (and Frank) as being the perfect old fashion couple. Maybe that's one reason I loved her so much. I thought she had such grace and poise. Honestly, in a large sense, she is a role model for me.

And I couldn't forget Claudia Joy and Michael. They were honestly the best couple. Their relationship is what I strive to have my relationship be like. Both Claudia Joy and Michael were strong yet supportive spouses and loved each other through any situation.

I will miss my weekly catch up with Army Wives.

Not a Boring Weekend

Tuesday, March 18, 2014

If you've hung around my blog long enough, you've probably noticed I don't post about my weekends much. I'm usually pretty boring on the weekends. BUT this weekend I had an amazing time and just couldn't help but share it with y'all.

I've mentioned a few times before that back in college I was a brother of the chemistry fraternity, Alpha Chi Sigma (AXE). I think that was by far the single best move I made in college. Anyway, Friday was the Spring initiation. They were a little short staffed so my best friend and I made the trip back up to Longwood and helped out. The road trip up there with my friend was unbelievably fun. Just getting to hang out with her for the first time since she got back from Kansas was amazing.

I was so happy I got to hang around with my old brothers and meeting new brothers, ah I miss spending time with so many friends and like-minded people. I had such a blast at the initiation. And it just wouldn't be an AXE event if we didn't do the Princess Pose. (aka let's get a real good look at my butt)

After the official event was over, we all went to one of the brother's houses. I have to be honest in saying I didn't go to many parties in college, and I don't think I was missing much. Though I really enjoyed getting to bond with new brothers and have a lot of good laughs with old brothers as well.

Exhibit A: the Sorority Pose

And because the guys couldn't believe we made them take that picture, we took a normal AXE picture.

Can't believe how much I miss these people! I'm looking forward to hanging out with them again really soon!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Monday, March 17, 2014

Happy St. Patrick's day! I completely was going to share this cool Irish story with y'all but my weekend kind of hindered me from actually creating the blog. So I figured I would share part of what I did this weekend. The second part will come tomorrow!

Gotta love being Irish, or at least half Irish.

Five Updates on Me

Friday, March 14, 2014

I feel like I haven't really given an update on my life lately. I mean I've shared cool things I've done but nothing just about life in general. So I figured I would do that for y'all today!

1. Monday I got out and went for a run. I've been trying to get at least 2 runs in per week. We've had some beautiful days lately and I definitely go for runs on those days but when we get days in the 40s I tend to shy away from running on those days compared to the 70 degree days we had. Anyway, I'm up to running 28 minutes and I'm averaging about a 10 min/mile pace. I'm very happy with that especially since it got me my fastest 5k to date! Done and Done.

2. I had a job interview this past week. I'm so excited because it went so well. Unfortunately they didn't have an open position at this time but are in desperate need of extra help so fingers crossed they can open up a position for me!

3. We finally had weather near the 80s only to be spoiled with colder and rainy days for the rest of the week. But you better believe that I got my butt outside and sat out in the sun for a few hours even if it did result in a bit of sunburn!

4. Okay so this one is a little embarrassing and exciting all at the same time. It has been months since I've put any serious effort into my eyebrows. Yes, embarrassing, I know. BUT, this week I went and had them threaded. And now they just look fabulous! I'm so excited. I love when my eyebrows are shaped and look so great.

5. Finally, today I am going back to my Alma Mater to help with the Alpha Chi Sigma initiation with my best friend! I'm so excited to see her and be back on campus together. This will be the second time we've been back in Farmville together since we graduated. Plus to hang out with a bunch of AXE brothers makes it so much better (even though we don't know that many people anymore), I'm so excited!

Throwback to the morning before I was initiated. Ah, such good memories.

Linking up with Five on Friday! Hope y'all have a great weekend!

Must-Watch TV Shows this Spring!

Thursday, March 13, 2014

When I watch TV, I can usually tell just by commercials/previews if a TV show will be something I am interested in. In the past few weeks I had been seeing quite a few previews for two (in my opinion) must-watch shows! Resurrection and Believe aired this past week and were just as good as the previews made them out to be.

Oh, this show. It looks like it is going to be GOOD! It starts out by showing a little boy who wakes up in China. As the show goes along you find out that he died 32 years ago and has somehow been brought back to life. Other characters in the show have lost loved ones and now their lives are being turned upside down by the resurrection of their deceased family members.

This show is definitely on "this could never happen" side about the dead just showing up again, but I think it is so nice because it makes you wonder what if it could happen. It is really compelling. During the previews for the whole season it sounded so good I just can't wait to find out what happens next! (Trailer for Resurrection)

The previews for this show really made me want to watch this. It involves a girl with this unbelievable gift and a man who was broken out of prison with the task of protecting her from the people who want to use her for evil. This is an unlikely duo as the man does not like children and the girl is gifted in many ways including wisdom beyond her years. It seems like it will be a huge adventure for both of them as they learn from each other.

Although this show might have started off a little "slow", I think this is one that can go very far and have many plot twists! I can't wait to keep watching to see where they are led next. (Trailer for Believe)

Have you found any must-watch shows that are coming on?

It Works Best on a Sunny Day: Part 2

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

That was my hint to John about his surprise a little over a year ago. I can't believe that it's been a year since I've started creating my own stained glass masterpieces. Since starting on John's first piece, I've made 3 other pieces.

About a year ago I started on a beautiful piece that was possibly a little over my experience level. After sitting around untouched for so long, I finally deciding to finish it no matter how it turned out. Last week it got done. It took a lot of solder and help from my friend but it is beautifully hanging in my window at this very moment.

Flip flops stained glass

After finishing that piece, my mom decided she wanted to learn how to make stained glass too. She wanted to start with a simple angel for her sister's birthday. I didn't want to take over her project and do most of it for her, so I chose a cute hummingbird piece to make while showing her how to do all the steps. It was a two-fold project because it taught my mom what to do while also knocking out my grandmother's birthday present!

Hummingbird Stained glass

All in all, the stained glass pieces have turned out beautifully. I can't believe I'm making them. It's so fun and addictive. It's amazing you can turn a piece of glass into a work of art. Here are all of my works of art thus far. I want to make more but honestly I feel like I'm running out of usable windows!

Happy Wednesday, y'all!

Love and The Host

Tuesday, March 11, 2014

I want to start sharing my thoughts on some of the books I'm reading the second Tuesday of every month. Last month I reviewed Divergent! I try not to give away any big details of how the book turns out but like to give you a bit about the book and discuss an idea from the book that stood out to me.

This month I wanted to tell you about The Host. In a world where humans fight each other and revert to violence in almost any situation, alien Souls come to create a peaceful world. Melanie, a human host is caught and has a Soul placed in her. The Soul placed in Melanie, Wanderer, has lived in many different hosts on many different planets, but to her, our world is the strangest.

In a normal implantation situation, Melanie is supposed to give up and disappear leaving her body to the Soul, but Melanie is too much of a fighter. She has humans she left behind: Jared and Jamie. With the memories of them keeping Melanie alive and causing Wanderer to have feeling she never expected they set out on a journey. Together they both find family and love in a time where they didn't think was possible.

One of the great ideas of this book is love. Love humans show one another, love the Souls show to each other, love between the humans and Wanderer. One of my favorite passages from the book is this one said by the Wanderer:

“What was it that made this human love so much more desirable to me than the love of my own kind? Was it because it was exclusive and capricious? The souls offered love and acceptance to all. Did I crave a greater challenge?...Or was it simply better somehow? Because these humans hate with so much fury, was the other end of the spectrum that they could love with more heart and zeal and fire?”

I'm a sap, I believe that love is the strongest emotion people can have. Without love, I don't think we would be anything. Although I hope we don't have alien invasion, I've often wondered how love will be after you die. I sincerely hope that in Heaven I will be able to spend eternity with John and my family, the people I love. That my mind, body and soul will be so connected to John that he will be there with me no matter where I may go.

I really loved this book. I believe it is a good read for young adults and readers who enjoy a little bit of sci-fi and fantasy.

If you've read the book, what did you think about it? What about their idea of love in the novel?
For those of you who haven't read it, does it sound interesting?

My Power Song Playlist

Monday, March 10, 2014

This weekend was absolutely beautiful! After the week of snow and cold weather I am so happy for the warm sunny days. I'm hoping it stays this way! The cold weather has not helped me get out and go for a run, which I have seriously been in need of.

I am in my 7th week of my 5k series and I am so excited. This week is a 25 minute run with a warm up and cool down. I can't even begin to explain how excited I am to be running 25 minutes. I remember when I first started this series I thought running a whole minute was horrible and I was so out of breath. I feel like I've come a long way.

Since the rest of my series I'm running 25, 28, 30 and 35 minutes I decided to make my own playlist. Although the music in the interval series is good and motivating I often tune it out because I don't know the songs. I tried out my 25 minute "Power Song" playlist already and it's amazing how much easier it made my run.

Power Song Playlist

One of my favorite bands to listen to when I'm working out or running is The Black Eyed Peas. I got their CDs (yes, CDs... I haven't gone digital download yet) when I was in college. I used to listen to them on repeat when I was at the gym but had all but forgotten about them until I was creating my running playlists.

The E.N.D. is has the most upbeat songs that are great for running. 6 of the 7 songs on my playlist were from this album. I had to throw in E.T. by Katy Perry, I love that song. But anyway I will share my playlist with y'all and maybe you can get your run on to the Black Eyed Peas too!

1. Rock That Body (Warm-up walk - 5 minutes)
2. Alive
3. Another Weekend
4. E.T. by Katy Perry
5. Electric City
6. Imma Be
7. Now Generation

Honestly I think the slowest my pace hit besides my warm-up and cool down was 9:45 which is great for me. Imma Be and Now Generation had me running 9:05 at the end of my run which I thought was impossible. I finished my 5k in 31:30 which is a 1:37 minute improvement from my last 5k run.

I'm looking forward to running again with my Power Song playlist. What is your Power Song?

My Life as a Closet Blogger

Friday, March 7, 2014

I'm a closet blogger. I blog as a hobby all for my enjoyment. I don't really feel pressured to write the perfect post; I just try to be myself. But I'm afraid that if I come out of the blogging closet, I will feel all this pressure.

I honestly have this fear that if I tell my real life friends about having a blog they will think I'm weird. Like I have no life, which is somewhat true, but that's not the point. I'm just afraid of the criticism I'll get for sharing my life so publicly on the internet. Though I'm sure that is so far from the truth because they are my friends and accept me as me.

Within the past year I've told John about having a blog and even that was a huge step for me. He didn't really have a comment but always listens when I blabber on about my blog.

I'm sure the one thing he thinks is the most weird about my blogging is how great of friends I become with total strangers. I'm sure all of y'all reading this have some idea especially since I'm assuming you yourself also have a blog.

One night while John and I were on our way back from Mississippi, I was telling him about this post "my blogging friend, Katie" wrote. I've talked to John about Katie before but since I had a roommate in college named Katie, blogging Katie has always been called my blogging friend, Katie. (Which I need to get out of that habit before he starts referring to her as blogging friend Katie). I like having a friendship with Katie because I feel like we understand each other and can talk about all of our life problems and we just get it without having to say too many words. We can be happy together or sad together, we encourage each other all while living at least a thousand miles apart and never seeing each other face to face.

Though I do hope to remedy that one day so I can get an actual picture with my best blogging friend, Katie!

Home and Garden Show

Thursday, March 6, 2014

This past weekend I went to the Home and Garden show in Richmond! I've never been to a home show but it was pretty fun. There was tons of vendors there, mostly locals, showing off all of their home goods.

My ultimate dream is for John and I to buy a chunk of land and build our own house. We can design the house exactly to our standards, be away from the clutter of neighborhoods and cities and just call the place our own. Anyway, going to the Home and Garden show was a great way for me to get ideas for my future dream house.

One of the things I saw at the Home and Garden show that I know I want in my future house is a drink bar. John and I both enjoy relaxing with each other while sharing some wine or some kind of drink. Having a wine cooler and a place to proudly display our collection of wine glasses would be a very nice addition to our house. I loved this bar as well!

Speaking of a relaxing evening, I always enjoy taking a relaxing bath. The only problem I have is that I can never seem to get comfortable in the bathtub. Therefore, my future master bath will have a jacuzzi tub in it. Something large enough where I could comfortably relax alone or not. ;)

Lastly, I am a huge fan of sitting in the sunlight and being in very open airy rooms. A Florida room is definitely on my wish list for my dream house! A place where I can sit and read a book when it's nice and sunny or curl up under a blanket and watch the rain. Maybe even a little spot for a romantic night in.

What would be in your dream house?

Three Years to Degree

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

School has always been very important to me. I never could have imagined my life without going to college. But I know for some people, after graduating high school, college just isn't something they want to think about. John was one of those people.

John's dream was always to graduate high school and go into the Air Force. That's just something he always wanted to do. His parents ultimately talked him into going to a community college. He stayed in school for about 3 semesters and knew it just wasn't for him.

After being in the Air Force and having his dream come true, he's started looking more into the future. Almost since we've been together he's been talking about going back to school and I could not be more happy. Since he started mentioning college I've tried to be very supportive and encourage him to go back to school.

Finally he is enrolled in classes and started his first class, an English class, on Monday. I expect he'll be writing a lot of papers and possibly be reading a lot. I suppose we'll see how this course load goes. Since he already has some college classes under his belt as well as college credit for classes taken in the Air Force we expect that he is approximately a fourth of the way to a college degree. Three more years until we can see John in this lovely apparel!

The Doggy Oil Debacle

Tuesday, March 4, 2014

Christy and Bo, my sweet Shelties, are always full of entertainment. This weekend I had a blast watching them run around the house "chasing" airplanes, race with cars (while still in the yard) and take naps in the sun.
Christy, myself and Bo Christmas 2012
Christy and Bo always look so cute. But even though they look nice, their coats aren't as shiny as other Shelties. Not that this really matters because we just enjoy them as part of the family, but we do like for them to look nice. We got some advice that if you take after bath oil and mixed it with water in a spray bottle, sprayed it on their coats and brushed them it might help to keep their coats nice and shiny.

It just so happened that we had some oil around the house. Mom decided she was going to try it, the only problem... she forgot the part about the water and spray bottle. She put some of the oil in her hand and started rubbing it on her sweet unsuspecting victim, Bo.

He loves to be petted and rubbed on, but I don't think he had a clue what was coming. I walked in on her rubbing and brushing Bo. He looked awful "wet" to have been lightly misted with the water/oil combo. After brushing for a while and eventually rubbing him down with the towel, I think we avoided having to give him a bath.

Christy got lucky because I had whipped up the spray bottle mixture and she got a quick spray, some brushing and a towel dry and she was off on her way. I think she appreciated that. She didn't seem to be in the mood to stay around and get some lovings.

Bo finally got most of the oil/wet look out of his coat after a substantial amount of rubbing and brushing. Though from the look on his face I really don't think he minded all the attention. As long as there was a T-R-E-A-T coming to him afterwards, he was in.

And that was this weeks entertainment. Do your pets give you entertainment as much as mine do?
