Happy Labor Day y'all! Let's take a break from all the hard work we've been doing and have some fun while talking all about makeup! Welcome to the second edition of American Honey's beauty mini-series.
I'm so excited to share, so without further ado I give you my favorite products.
Face Products: I didn't really start using foundation and concealer until about a year ago. After doing some major research online and YouTube, I thought Cover Girl Outlast Stay Fabulous was the best bang for my buck. I have found it to be such a wonderful foundation. I go between two different shades and this foundation mixes very well, just as an FYI for gals like me who don't fit into one specific shade. I generally apply it so I have a light to medium coverage. I don't have a lot of redness or blemishes I need to cover up, but I do like to even out my skin tone and hide some of my freckles. The one thing I will say is that if you have dry skin, use a good moisturizer before applying this foundation.
As for the Rimmel Match Perfection concealer, it does everything I need it to do. It is a squeeze tube with a brush which I use for my under-eye dark circles. This stuff covers up that darkness perfectly. It also doesn't settle into fine lines, which is a huge plus.
Eyeshadow: In order to talk about my favorite eyeshadow, I must first talk about what I put under it! My face is very weird when it comes to dry/oily skin. My cheeks can be dry as a bone, yet my eyelids get slightly oily! The solution to this (hopefully not too weird) problem is NYX Eyeshadown Base. It evens out the color of my eyelids and stops the oils from breaking down and creasing my shadow. I have 3 different pots: nude, white and shimmery white. They all work wonderfully!
After guaranteeing my shadow isn't going to crease, I reach for my favorite Maybelline quad. The Natural Smokes mini palette from Maybelline is my favorite. I think neutral tones really bring out the color of my eyes. It applies well with very little fall out. The pigmentation was one of my greatest concerns before buying it, but I'm very impressed. The color stays bright all day as long as I don't rub my eyes!
Liner & Mascara: Let's go ahead and complete the eyes with some liner and mascara. Since I'm more of a neutral gal when it comes to eyeshadow, I absolutely love my Cover Girl Perfect Point Plus eyeliner in plum velvet! It goes well with my shadow as well as alone for those days that I'm being lazy. This liner is a twist up mechanical type with a very creamy feel. Does that even make sense?! Anyway, it is also a great liner if you want to have a smudgier look. Not sure if that's a word, but I'm going with it!
I might like to be neutral when it comes to shadow color, but I want my eyes to pop when it comes to my lashes! The Rocket Volum' Express by Maybelline does just that. Before we even get into how well this mascara works, I want to share why I bought this mascara: for the applicator. I don't like the typical mascara applicator. I prefer more of a plastic wand with spikes. So when Maybelline came out with The Rocket, I was all over it! The plastic wand was just the tip of the wonderful iceberg. This mascara gives your lashes volume for days! Best part, no clumping. I feel like I could walk the Red Carpet with this mascara. I'll keep dreaming on that, but I should warn you, while this mascara is easy to apply and wears great, but it can be very difficult to take off.
Cheeks: I might be a pale half-Irish girl, but I still like to have some color. NYC Color Wheel mosaic powder is the best bronzer I've found for my complection. I love the variety of colors all in one little package. I swirl my brush around to get a mix of color and apply to my cheek and hairline. It applies very evenly and best yet, doesn't look fake.
As far as blush goes, Cheekers in Pretty Peach by Cover Girl is my go-to blush. It might not work well with all skin shades, but I like how it looks on my cheeks. I tend to have a light hand when it comes to blush, so it gives me a nice peach glow. I would definitely recommend looking into the Cheekers or other Cover Girl blush products!
Applicators: Makeup brushes and applicators are one of the most important parts of beauty products in my opinion. Having good products to apply your makeup can make all of the difference in the world. The Beauty Blender type of sponge is definitely one of those tools I would suggest for your makeup toolbox! I have a really good dupe for the actual Beauty Blender which I bought at Kohl's. I use this sponge dampened to apply my foundation and concealer. It really gives a flawless even finish. I can't say enough positive things about this small pink sponge.
As for blending my eyeshadow, the Real Techniques base shadow brush is a newer addition to my collection, but it has quickly become a favorite. The bristles are very soft and allow for the shadow to easily be blended for a beautiful natural look. I bought this brush in a set and would definitely recommend the line!
