Where were you 13 years ago? Do you remember? I was fairly young, but that day will be one that is forever etched in my mind.
September 11, 2001 started out as a fairly typical 6th grade day. That was until I got to third period math class. An announcement was made over the loud speaker saying that something happened in New York. As an eleven year old, it didn't really make much sense to me and I basically went on about my day not really knowing what had happened.
It wasn't until I got home from school to find my mom crying that I knew something was wrong. When I finally got to watch the news footage of New York and the Pentagon, reality began to set it. That was the first time in my life I actually felt afraid of something.
I remember riding the bus to school the next day and not wanting to be there. I loved school, so for me not wanting to go was rare! I had never felt unsafe before, but all of that changed in one day.
I've thing that has never changed is that I am proud to be an American, through the good and the bad!
