I am a little upset with myself. Today is the first day of October and it has been a month since I wanted to tell y’all about the great impromptu apple picking. Heck, I even had time to write about making wine from the apples but not the apple picking itself. You can see where my priorities are!
So a little over a month ago my mom and I had a great time picking apples at my grandparents house! We just happened to be up there visiting one day and noticed that the apple trees were loaded down with apples that were begging to be picked. How could we resist fresh, homegrown apples?!
We got ourselves a ladder, a few buckets and started picking. My mom, grandfather and I made a pretty great 3 person team. My grandfather would steady the ladder while my mom climbed up to pick the apples and hand them down to me.
When everything was said and done, we had over 10 gallons of fresh apples. Believe me, that many apples makes a lot of apple pies, fried apples and five gallons of apple wine.
Speaking of the apple wine, the fermentation has slowed down a whole lot. Plus a lot of the sediment has settled to the bottom. We will be making a trip back to the wine shop soon to figure out exactly what our next step is. Stay tuned, I have a feeling the apple wine will be coming along sooner than we expected!
