An Update on Us

Friday, January 9, 2015

Y'all may or may not have noticed that I haven't been talking about John as much recently. Instead of doing a Untold Stories this month, I want to give y'all an update on everything.

In mid-Fall, John found out he is moving to Alaska. He will be PCSing there in late Spring. As you might imagine, it was quite a shock. It has also really took a tole on both of us. I was in big time denial. I hoped for months that the orders would fall through and he could stay in Charleston. Then I tried to accept it and get excited about it. But it is just so far away from both of our family.

Because of all of the big news, it has really caused John to stress, which has made me stress. The past few months have been very, very stressful for both of us. Not knowing what we should do about the move has really been hard.

Things have been very rocky and have really made me reconsider my future. I'm not exactly sure what lies ahead, but whatever it is I'm going to be brave and make the best of it.

  1. Where in Alaska is he being stationed? May I say, that if you guys move here together, you'll be amazed at this beautiful place! This place is amazing! My husband and I have never had a stronger marriage then being up here in this amazing place relying solely on each other. God bless you both!

  3. That's a bummer that he didn't get the assignment you were hoping for. My husband and I (and all our friends that were stationed there) loved Alaska for the time we were there. I honestly would love to go back if we got the chance. I hope things work out for the best for you no matter what happens.

  4. I hope things work out. It's hard but sometimes you just have to jump in with both feet and don't look back.

  6. If you ever need someone to talk to, you know you can e-mail me! First, I need to say something not very nice and not coddle you though: this is the life of a military spouse, but no matter how far you have to move, if you pick love, you will make it through! I never in a million years could have imagined moving to Okinawa! I mean- talk about far! The stress that comes with moving is absolutely normal- and I think no matter how long you've been married you still go through it! I was at a brunch this morning with a 40 year old Marine wife, mother of two, freaking out about their move back off the island! We all stress about the unanswered, but there is a leap of faith you must take in this lifestyle- I hope you can both come to a decision if it's the lifestyle for you or not, before unhappiness creeps in!
