Oh My Running!

Stupid, stupid snow! And stupid freezing temperatures! I have started to fall behind in my running!

If y'all remember, I am training for the Ukrops Monument Avenue 10k coming up on March 28th! I was a week or so ahead of schedule which I thought was pretty good. Then Virginia pounded us with nearly 6 inches of snow and all my running went to the wayside.

I have gotten up to running 6 minutes and I can't wait to continue on my running journey! I have actually signed up for another 5k race (which I believe I mentioned before). This one is in my home town and much more low key. I figured it would be good to warm up so to speak.

I've also figured out two of my favorite running songs are What I Like About You by The Romantics and The Queen and I by Gym Class Heroes. I would really love to find a few more favorite running songs.

I have also decided to try to add a few strength training exercises to my off days (once I start really running again). I found this article about 5 core exercises for runners on Pinterest, so I started it over the weekend. Something is better than nothing right?!

Do you have any suggestions for running?
What are your favorite running songs?
What do you do for exercise?

  1. Yay for signing up for a 5K as well! :) Do you have access to a treadmill? I know it's not exactly the most fun thing in the world, but it's better than getting too far behind in training and not being ready. I had to run a couple of my LONG runs on a treadmill last year due to weather... and with the right music, it's not so bad! :)

  2. I wish I could run with music! I have to be able to hear what is going on around me. As far as tips I do think it is a good idea to add some strength training. It will definitely help. :) You are awesome!

  3. I did finally get to go for run yesterday. I don't have easy access to a treadmill right now. I can go to the gym with a friend but she's been pretty busy. I think once I start my new job joining a gym will be one of my top priorities.

  4. You go girl! Here are some of my favorite songs to run to (don't judge. some of them are pretty lame songs but awesome for running, haha):
    Champagne Showers - LMFAO
Anything Could Happen - Ellie Goulding
Live Like a Warrior - Matisyahu
    Midnight City - M83
Also, one of my favorite things to do for exercise is use the Nike Training Club app! It's awesome! Just search for NTC on your app store.

  5. Hey Ashley! I've signed up to run the Monument Ave 10K, too!! One of my favorite songs to add to my playlist is Don't Stop Believing! What I usually do after training, is figure out my estimated time that it will take me to complete the entire race. Then, I make Don't Stop Believing my last song....to help push through that last 1/2 mile or so....especially just for crossing the finish line! Maybe it's just a mental thing for me, but it works! haha

  10. I wish I was able to run. My asthma makes it almost impossible even with medication. I used to run every day - my tips are stretch and wear GOOD shoes. I ended up getting a hairline fracture in my foot because i wasn't wearing good shoes. Good luck!
