Imma Bee Running

Monday, October 26, 2015

I had a pretty good weekend! My mom and I ran the Halloween 5k. But really there is more to the story than just running this 5k. Let me explain.

Since I work in the evening, my mom went to pick up our race packets on Friday evening. While she was over on that side of town, she rode the course we were going to be running, just to get a feel for it. Well, turns out the course was going to be very hilly.

Okay, fast forward to the race. The first few hills weren't that bad, and then we got to the end of the road. Turn left or right? Everybody was going left, but as soon as we turned my mom said "We're going the wrong way" ... um what? So there was also a half marathon going on at the same time as our 5k. When we made the left, we were actually on the path of the half marathon, we should have made the right. But we continued on, along with all of the other 5k-ers.

To make a long story short, with a few hills, we got back onto the original 5k path and rounded out our 5k run by running 4.2 miles. My foot was really hurting, more on that later, but we finished the run in 51 minutes. Not my best pace, but then again, there were hills and my foot was hurting.

I think I looked really cute though!

And that is the story of how I ran the 5k Halloween race that actually was 4.2 miles!

Autumn at Longwood

Monday, October 19, 2015

This weekend felt like a true Fall weekend. And luckily I got to spend it in one of my favorite places! I went back to my Alma Mater, Longwood University. I honestly didn't realize how much I missed being there until I went back.

I met one of my good friends on campus and we stopped for coffee before walking around campus and reminiscing. I had so many good memories there, I wish I could go back.

Recently I've been feeling like I'm being left behind. So many people I know are doing great things with their lives, and I feel like I could be doing so much more. So it felt nice to go back to a place where it was okay to have tons of questions and still not know what's going on with your life.

On our way to the bookstore, we walked by Moe's. Basically the place we had dinner at least once a week. That, of course, sparked the topic of what is the best place to eat? Moe's or Chipotle. Almost all of my Longwood friends agree that Moe's is better. Anybody else have their opinions?!

PS that's a pretty awesome sign in the window. Has anybody else had very nostalgic memories about different places or times in their lives?

It was a pretty awesome day. What did you do awesome this weekend?

Big Job, Little Stress

Tuesday, October 13, 2015

Have y'all ever had something stressful going on in your life but you feel and act like it's nothing? That's what I'm feeling now. When I got my big girl job, I was hired on to work in the lab under a contract position. Temp to hire. Basically I stay there as long as needed and will get hired on at the soonest possible time. I was told 6 months to a year and we should be hired on full time.

However, in the 6 months I've been at this company, I've seen many, many nights where there was little to do. I never worried about being too slow because of the nature of my lab. There needs to be at least 2 people in the lab at night to support the manufacturing of our products. Basically I have to be there so the production people can bring in products to be tested before they call it "good" and move on. So I never worried until now. Last week we found out that 4 contractors got let go because of not having enough work.

Everybody has been scrambling trying to show that they are busy and are needed there. I have to say, I was very worried when I got the news, but at the same time, I just knew I would be okay. Last week I trained on a whole new product which I am starting to test this week.

I don't know if I'm not worried because I know I'm a good worker and they will keep me around as long as they can, or if it's because I know they need us there at night, or because when one door closes another (hopefully better) one opens, maybe it's just a combination of all of those things that's keeping me calm. I'm not sure what it is, but I'm so glad that I am not stressing too much over this.

Have y'all ever been in this situation?
How do you deal with stressful things going on in your life?

Cute and Stylish

Monday, October 12, 2015

Oh my goodness y'all, my hair had been driving me crazy for a while. I have thyroid problems which causes your hair to fall out and in my case look like I never took care of it. I was tired of it. So I took the plunge of a shorter more stylish hair cut a few weeks ago.

Besides it looking like I never put a brush to it, I have a bald spot in the back of my head. My hair has just stopped growing there. I'm in pitiful shape here, so I really needed to do something. I looked a few different hair styles and just went to the salon.

I think it looks much better afterwards and I'm now using this shampoo/conditioner routine that is supposed to help support hair regrowth so I won't have that bald spot anymore. How embarrassing!
