The First Date

Tuesday, January 19, 2016

So it's time for a first date. Yes, I'm talking about NPG and I. We met on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving (in case you missed it previously-- click the link!)  But before we get there let me finish up from Wednesday night.

I wanted to make it an early night due to the fact that I had a 5k Turkey Trot run the next morning. But when I met NPG, I just didn't want to leave. 10 o'clock came, 11 o'clock came and passed. Eventually at 1:30 in the morning NPG told me to go home so I could actually run in the morning. PS that run had me feeling like complete crap! Don't go drinking the night before a run!

Anyway, back to the date. I was hoping NPG would text me while I was running, but no luck. I was a little disappointed. Eventually we got to talking though. He asked me on a date for Friday. I said yes, of course!

We went to this cool little restaurant in the historical district of a nearby city. I had never been there before, but I had a good time. Our first date was unlike any I'd been on. Maybe it was the fact that we'd met in a casual setting and didn't have all of the first date jitters. I'm not really sure. But in any case, I felt like I could be natural around him. We ate dinner and when the house band started to play, we decided to hit up another bar just around the block so we would have a better chance of still talking.

After a few drinks we decided to leave. I knew I shouldn't drive yet, so I asked if I could check out his new Jeep he bought earlier in the day. We sat there listening to the radio and just talking. I really didn't want to leave and not just because I shouldn't be driving. Eventually when there was a lull in our conversation, we kissed. Maybe first kiss in the car doesn't sound romantic and magical, but let me tell you, it made me extremely happy and I feel like I've been on that same high since November!

We ended up spending every day of that weekend together, and every weekend since then together as well! I have been so happy, I can't even express it.

So I have a few more stories I will share with y'all in the coming weeks!

The Bar Story

Tuesday, January 12, 2016

If you have been staying caught up with the little bit I've been writing recently, you will have noticed little hints about a new man in my life. Or if you follow along on my other social media accounts, the cat is out of the bag! I have been so happy being around him and spending time with him, I can't wait any longer to tell y'all.

So here's the back bar story, it's a little long and includes many other guys before we get to Mr. Right.

My friend and I wanted to try out this somewhat new bar in our town. We were very curious about it and since I was getting off early the day before Thanksgiving, we decided to go. It was a quaint (if a bar can be quaint), little place. They had live music and mostly a local crowd there. Unfortunately, we decided to leave early due to being hit on by a drunk guy (Guy #1) that just wouldn't give up. As luck would have it, the next bar we tried was dead as can be, so we went back to the original place to listen to the live music and give it one more go.

The second time around a much nicer guy bought us a round of drinks. Wait for it, we still haven't met Mr. Right yet! As we were sitting there talking to Guy #2, Guy #3 came up and asked the 3 of us if we wanted to play some pool. We agreed and moved over towards the pool table. As we were playing, and very poorly on my part, Guy #4 walked in and sat down by the pool table. I had seen #3 and #4 walk in together so I figured they were friends. After taking my turn, in which I was very horrible and missed the ball I was aiming at completely, I went over to Guy #4 and asked him to not judge me on my pool playing skills... smooth Ashley! It was the best I had in my semi-intoxicated state! Things went from there and that is how I met NPG.

You will have to come back next week to find out more of NPG and my story!

Keep On Keeping On

You know, sometimes life can get you a little down. It's easy to get stuck in the little things that make life not so great and just kind of stay there in this gloomy world. But it's really no fun to be the Debbie Downer.

Almost 6 years ago, I struggled with depression and it is no joke. I know what I had was nowhere near as bad as it could have been, but it is still no fun. I felt so out of it, like I had no connections to most people. It's a sad state when you don't want to be around people or even get out of bed.

Even now, I can easily slip back into that place. That gloomy little room inside of my head. But I know I have to pull myself out when I feel that I'm starting to slip there again. Recently, I have been on a pretty nice high, but when I think about my job and wanting to find a new one, I can feel myself starting to fall into those same ruts.

Last weekend, I was hanging out with my man, like most weekends. He had been quoting this movie that I had never seen and frankly had never heard of. Finally he pulled out the DVD (gasp! we're old school over here) and we watched Joe Dirt. It was a little redneck and fake in some parts, but it had an amazing message.

Like I said earlier, sometimes it's easy for me to get all worked up over my well paid job, the fact that I need to be healthier, or it's so cold outside. But in reality there are people who would love to have the job I have, who would kill for my health and would just want a warm jacket to wear this winter. I don't have it bad at all. Sometimes all we need is to keep the "no" out of our hearts.

If you haven't seen Joe Dirt (and I've heard there is a Joe Dirt 2 that came out more recently), I would definitely recommend watching it. It will give you a few laughs and put things back into perspective a little bit.

Until next time, keep on keeping on!

Photo Holiday Recap

Happy New Year y'all! I hope y'all had a safe and fun holiday season. I took an intentional little hiatus from the blog over the holiday season so I could focus on spending time with friends and family. BUT I didn't forget y'all! I made sure to take lots of pictures and even tried some video on my new camera. So here is my little holiday recap.

I am looking forward to what the new year is going to bring and can't wait to share it all here on the blog!
